| Ski Sunday takes stock (99)
As someone who has watched this programme since it first began I can only think that those who have complained simply enjoy doing so. It is after all easy to be critical. To be creative takes talent. The one aspect which you might want to consider altering is the celebrity challenge part. I know that since Noel Edmonds show's fatal accident the Beeb is not keen at all to have members of the public invovled but would it not be better to have them racing against the clock and benefiting from Mr Bell's expertise? I await your call!! D W Jaap .
Estes Park works against its residents
Imagine a town government that uses more than 25 percent of its $28 million budget just to pay themselves (highest paying jobs around)! Imagine a government that makes it hard for a common citizen to have access to government public records. Colorado Revised Statutes 24-72-201 through 309 give a Colorado citizen the right to request and receive information about government employee salaries, bonuses and benefits. Imagine a town that passes its own policy on giving public information but jacks the price up to say $60 or $90. The Colorado attorney general and the Larimer County district attorney were contacted about this town doing this in clear violation of CRS 24-72-205 - and no one did anything or wanted to do anything about this violation. Imagine a town that works against its businesses and residents.
What the candidates stand for
Hillary Clinton: 47 million Americans lack health insurance. The New York senator, who came to grief in 1994 with a complex plan as First Lady, has proposed a scheme that requires everyone to carry health insurance, offering government subsidies to help reduce the cost of coverage. Cost of the plan is $110bn (£56bn). Barack Obama: Also wants universal coverage, but would keep the private insurance system. He would inject cash to expand it to cover everyone. Insurers would not be allowed to refuse coverage because of pre-existing conditions. Campaign aides put the cost at $50-65bn a year, financed largely by eliminating tax cuts for the rich. John Edwards: Seeks to insure all Americans by 2012. Wants businesses, government and individuals to share responsibility, make insurance more affordable and reform the market to improve choice and quality and cut costs.
Astronaut to throw boomerang in space
Astronaut Takao Doi, 53, is set to travel on a US shuttle in March to the International Space Station, where he will be in charge of construction of a Japanese scientific testing room. It is believed gravity is needed for a boomerang to fly back to the throwing spot, but no one has tried in zero gravity. "Mr Doi said he will personally carry a paper boomerang for the upcoming mission and we presume he will try it when he has spare time,'' said an official of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. Doi reportedly decided on boomerang tests after he received a request from Yasuhiro Togai, a world boomerang champion from the western Japanese metropolis of Osaka. Doi later underwent training from the world champion on how to throw it, media reports said.
