| That's Danny Billions to you
The globe should be considered a non-biased paper but instead builds itself up on propaganda, trying to convince the average Ontarion that it's province is by far the greatest and everyone else is poor and living off it. It's prety pathedic that when someone logs in one of the first pics you see is Danny Williams potrayed like this. What's the next story in here Williams pregnant for Harper? This paper is smelling more like a teenage gossip magazine everyday. Posted 25/01/08 at 6:44 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment .

Lessons our children learn too early
I would suggest checking our list of structure damage online for more help. You can find it here: http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2007/10/25/news/top_stories/1_12_0010_24_07.txt Debbie wrote on Oct 25, 2007 6:34 AM:Fern's comment is so true. Many people evacuated not because they sensed imminent danger but because they were just "following the rules". In some areas, where there was never any imminent danger AND there has been power during the entire period, residents are likely to ignore the evac orders next time. Let us in NOW if our homes are undamaged and we still have power. RL wrote on Oct 25, 2007 6:36 AM:For Linda-the tape on your sister's house means that due to evacuations the firefighters went door-to-door to be sure all residents were evacuated. It lets others know that the house is evacuated, and lets the other fire/policemen know they do not have to check that house again for residents.
McGinnis: Cause-of-the-day democracy
From the moment colonists set foot on Jamestown, American history has been about social change, and anybody who thinks they can stop it is kidding themselves. In every element of life, from government institutions to nonprofit organizations, PTAs and church committees, we're seeing it. As anti-establishment as they may have been in the ‘60s, Baby Boomers are taking the reins from the Greatest Generation, determined that nobody waste their time or money. Today good stewardship means operating by efficient, transparent business models. Technology has leveled the playing field and the days of patronage appointments, handshake deals and the buddy system are coming to a close. It's time to lead or leave. We have gradually come to a turning point in local government. Wichita County voters have watched county operations slowly succumb to change; things are far from perfect but attrition should clear the remaining hurdles.
Taking our measure
Even with that isolation though, finding solitude and quiet here can be hard. With the shared facilities and constant hum of heavy machinery and construction vehicles, it’s difficult to imagine the South Pole as Scott and Amundsen would have known it. Perhaps the only way to get even a glimpse of that Pole is to go out for a long walk. Luckily, I’ve made plans to get a tour of the Atmospheric Research Observatory (ARO), one of the main scientific facilities here a short distance from the station. I look up at the television monitors, which tell me that it’s -24 °C outside, with a wind chill of -62 °C. Better get my gear. Getting dressed to go outside here involves more layers than a James Joyce novel. First comes the polypropylene long underwear.

Appalachian policy prohibits student-teaching for resident assistants
Due to a new policy approved in December 2007, student teachers are no longer eligible for a resident assistant position. “The students that have done [student teaching] in the past have barely survived as an RA," Director of Residence Life Jeff Doyle said. “This was in the best interest of the residents and student teachers."Doyle said student teachers wake as early as 6 a.m. and are at school until 3 or 4 p.m., giving them only around 7 hours before they go to bed to eat, socialize, plan for the next day and fulfill RA requirements. The department feared the student teachers would be making sacrifices either in their student teaching jobs, or in the RA position. “We estimate the RA job takes 17 hours a week, student teaching is 40 hours and that's already 57 hours of weekly requirements," Doyle said.
