| School students shoot classmate for ‘bullying’
In an American-style campus shooting, two students of a private school in Gurgaon shot dead a classmate as he was about to take the schoolbus home, police said on Tuesday. Abhishek Tyagi, a class VIII student of Euro International School in Sector 45, was shot five times from close range on his forehead, chest and shoulder inside the campus. The 14-year-old was declared dead at a private hospital. Police identified the two boys as Akash Yadav, 14, and Vikas Yadav, 13. They said Akash had brought his father's licensed foreign-made pistol and both boys took turns to shoot Abhishek. Gun violence among schoolchildren in India is rare. The case, possibly the first reported in and around Delhi, recalls the situation in the US, where rights activists are campaigning for tougher gun laws to control the problem. The two boys told the police that Abhishek allegedly used to bully them at school because he was of better build.
Settling the argument over fascism
For the pinheads arguing over what is a fascist, a perfect example is the Berkeley City Council trying to run the Marines out of town ("Berkeley council says Marine recruiting center is not welcome," Feb. 1). That, my friends, is fascist. The great irony is this is the city where the Free Speech Movement, led by an assistant professor named Mario Savio, began. The irony, of course, is free speech turned upside down. I lived in San Francisco and Oakland in the early '60s. I watched these juvenile, narcissistic collegiates give birth to the modern socialist/liberal movement, which is why I became a conservative. The actions of the left were subversive then and were determined to overthrow American values. .
Bush struggles for relevance in last state of the union
He threatened to veto bills from Congress that included funding for special interest projects, or earmarks, and warned of the dangers of accelerating US troop withdrawals from Iraq. But he still had to share the evening with two of his would-be successors: Barack Obama, seated beside Ted Kennedy, who endorsed his campaign earlier yesterday, and Hillary Clinton, who sat beside her onetime rival in the Democratic race, Joe Biden, and Bill Nelson. Nelson, a Democratic Senator from Florida, is due to endorse Clinton today. The evening began with an awkward moment between the two Democratic frontrunners when it appeared as if Obama turned away or did not see Clinton when she reached out to shake his hand. John McCain opted to stay behind in Florida to campaign for today's primary - and avoid exposure to an unpopular president.
Manteca Chop Shop Sweep Nets Seven
A suspected chop shop of stolen cars which police believe has operated for months has been busted at a rural farmhouse on South Union Road in Manteca. Six men and one woman face dozens of felony charges. "For the city of Manteca I'd say this is a really good size. This is a great case," said Detective John Moody. "Being able to find one stolen (car) being dismantled at a residence is great, however, being able to have five is fantastic." Detectives found one intact stolen sedan with four others in various stages of dismantling. The suspects are believed to have been using a large garage at the rear of the farm house to chop the cars. Two weapons, including a sawed-off shotgun, were also found, according to Moody. Looking over a pile of engines, doors and seats brought to City Wide Towing in Stockton, Russ Johnson said thieves find it more convenient to part-out stolen cars and trucks.
